SLIPPING ON THE ICE

A COLLECTION OF STORIES FROM
A PEACE CORPS UKRAINE VOLUNTEER

On a Monday just like any other I was in Washington DC, but before the next week began I found myself in a village of three thousand people Central Ukraine. I didn’t understand a word of the language, and of course, no one understood me either. Just one flight turned everything in my life upside down. This is the story of my Peace Corps Journey.

I describe my path as a Peace Corps Volunteer from 2018 to 2020, including all of the sink or swim experiences that come with starting a new job with a new language in a completely foreign place. From being in Ukraine during martial law due to tensions with Russia, to living through the first election since the Maidan Revolution, to getting evacuated due to Covid-19, my experience in Ukraine was packed with all sorts of once in a lifetime experiences, and now I have the pleasure of sharing them all with you.
